According to the Race for Hope website, His Team for a Cure raised more than $98,000 toward the fight against brain tumors.
That included proceeds from a Friday night concert during which David debuted his upcoming single, “Gimme Heartbreak.”
David first became involved in the Race for Hope in May 2009, the year after he won American Idol.
In fact, his first race for the cause came the day after his brother, Adam, succumbed to the disease.
Since then, David and his supporters have raised well more than $500,000 for the event.
The 5K race was held Sunday and only one team (Cushman & Wakefield) raised more than David’s.
“I love this event,” David said in a Good Morning Washington interview. “I love the people that put this event on. I love the good that it does. And to get to be a small cog in that wheel is a huge thing of pride for me.”
As for the Friday night’s total request concert, head to YouTube and you can find lots of great videos from David’s performance, including a fabulous cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” I’ll embed “Gimme Heartbreak” below.
No release date has been announced for the single, but David has lots of tour dates coming up, including a July 5 show at Jergels in the Pittsburgh area and a July 6 show at World Cafe Live in Philly.
You can find the rest of the upcoming tour dates on David’s website or Facebook page.
