That’s not the story of Ryan Scripps.
Oh, he got involved in music at a young age. But singing didn’t come until much later.
On his website and Facebook bios, Ryan explains how he started playing guitar around age 9. By the time he was in high school, he had joined a rock band called Referral.
And he was doing well as a guitar player. Referral entered a Last Band Standing competition hosted by renown radio personality Greg Kiln. They wound up winning and got to play a set live on Kiln’s morning radio show.
But by age 18, Ryan began feeling like just playing guitar wasn’t going to be enough for him musically.
“I would bring my guitar to play at a friend’s bonfire and while I loved to play the guitar all night, I felt like there was something missing. I really wanted to start singing,” Ryan writes on Facebook.
He was also feeling the pull of country music. So he began posting covers of popular country songs on YouTube.
Flash forward a few years, and he’s doing much more than that.
He teamed up with female vocalist Cece Bamburg and began playing shows across northern California. In 2014, they released a three-track EP called “That’s Something.”
And Ryan has since followed that up with a solo EP called “Everything But Her,” featuring six originals. It came out last year. Be sure to check out the title track and “Baby You’re My Summertime” below.
“Music is my ultimate passion and you never know where it’s going to take you,” Ryan says on Facebook. “The most important aspect is that you gotta have fun with it and I feel so blessed to be able to do that on a regular basis.”
Apparently, it’s taken him all the way to Season 13 of The Voice.
Here are Ryan’s social media links, followed by those promised songs.
