Laine Hardy will be a contestant on ABC’s revamped American Idol.
Idol premieres March 11 with Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan as the judges who determine which singers make it to Hollywood and which don’t.
Here’s more about Laine Hardy.
* Laine is 17 and from Livingston, La., where he’s attended French Settlement High Schoo.
* Laine presents himself as a country boy in a video American Idol has already posted, saying he enjoys fishing, riding around in his truck and playing music.
* He’s been doing the latter for some time. There’s a video posted by his mom from 2010 featuring Laine belting out a pretty impressive guitar solo. Oh, and he appears to have added an “i” to his first name for his Idol journey.
* He’s been performing around his hometown as part of The Band Hardy, billed as “cousins doing what they do best.”
* As a performer, Laine doesn’t appear limited to country music. In fact, check YouTube and you’ll find more cases where The Band Hardy is covering rock and southern rock classics than straight-up country tunes.

The reason the “I” is in his name now, rather than before his 17th birthday, is because when he went to get his driver’s license and had to bring his birth certificate, he noticed his name was actually spelled Laine instead of Lane.
