Jordyn SImone landed a spot on Team Alicia Keys for Season 14 of The Voice.

Jordyn Simone landed a spot on Team Alicia Keys for Season 14 of The Voice.

Her audition: Jordyn Simone, 17, of Los Angeles, Calif., auditioned with “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton. Her audition was montaged, so we only saw a few seconds of it. Alicia Keys was the only judge to turn, but that was enough to give Simone a spot on Season 14.

More about Jordyn:

* She hails from a musical family. Her mother (Monica) is a piano player; her father (Keith) a singer and saxophone player who has pursued his own career in music.

* According to her website bio, she began singing in her youth gospel choir at church at age 5, and enrolled in the Amazing Grace Conservatory (AGC), a Los Angeles based performing arts training program at age 7. She describes herself as a singer, songwriter and actor and landed her first leading role in musical theater in the conservatory’s production of “Wicked” when she was 12.

* Jordyn is now a senior at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She performs in the jazz ensemble there and has received a top artist award at the nationwide Next Generation Jazz Festival in each of the past three years.

* About two years ago, Jordyn was featured in the Denver audition episode of what was then the final season of American Idol. She sang “Who’s Loving You” and blew the judges away with her soulfulness and vocal maturity. She breezed to Hollywood and finished in the show’s Top 50.

* She’s been working on a debut EP and says her sound is “molded by her love of R&B and pop artists such as Christina Aguilera, Jill Scott, and John Legend” with a touch of her gospel roots as well.

* Jordyn says she’s also on a mission to end endometrial cancer. The disease claimed the life of her grandmother and her godmother’s grandmother as well.

On landing on Team Alicia: “I think she’s absolutely amazing. And I think although it would have been amazing to have a four-chair turn. at the same time it would have given me too much options and I’m too indecisive. So it was amazing to get the chance to just see her and just for us to connect on a deeper level with the music.”

I was dissappointed on season 14 that we didn’t get to hear Jordyn in the knockout section of The Voice. Why was this. I can’t find it on any YouTube or NBC resource.

If the show decides to montage a performance … it’s gone and you’re not going to see it. The only exception was Season 12, which the show actually put full performance videos online for the singers who were montaged. Why can’t they do that every season? I have no idea. The cameras are obviously filming. It would seem pretty simple. And fairer to the contestants if they could at least have fans watch the performances on YouTube or The Voice website.
