Garrett Jacobs will be a contestant on ABC’s revamped American Idol.

Garrett Jacobs is among contestants who have announced on social media that they auditioned for ABC’s new version of American Idol.

Idol premieres Sunday with Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan as the judges who determine which singers make it to Hollywood and which don’t.

Here’s more about Garrett Jacobs.

* Garrett is 17 and from Bossier City, La.

* He’s a senior at Benton High School where he has played football for four years and baseball for three, according to this report by a local radio station.

* American Idol showed up at his high school Dec. 11 to film video for the show and was asking for a “football atmosphere.”

* In an American Idol clip, he says he’s been singing since he could talk.

* He also says his biggest fan is his grandmother, called “Honey,” “because she’s so sweet.”

* You’ve probably seen Garrett in Idol commercials. He’s the young man, guitar on shoulder, talking to his grandmother on his cell phone with the three Idol judges in the background.

* Idol usually doesn’t like to reveal the outcome of auditions, but that Facetime phone call gives it away. Garrett earns a golden ticket to Hollywood.

* He’s a versatile singer with a wide range of covers on his Facebook page, from Christian artist Lauren Daigle to the rock band Kaleo to Bill Withers (see below) and Chris Stapleton.

* He impressively covered Kaleo’s “I Can’t Go On Without You” en route to winning the high school division in the local 2017 Artbreak Talent Show.

* Garrett’s clearly from a religious family, writing on Twitter that “God has my plan set in stone and reveals my path for I trust Him.”
