In her vlog on YouTube, Jaclyn Lovey says she wasn’t expecting “such a poppy song” for her battle round match with Britton Buchanan on The Voice.

“But I feel like we can make it work,” she added.

Yep, you might say they did.

Their cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” wound up being one the biggest hits of Season 14 from the battle rounds — one of only three songs, in fact, to crack the Top 100 on iTunes.

Their performance also allowed both of them to stay on the show, which was the goal all along.

“I think our main purpose was to make a good duet,” Britton said during a conference call with the media. “The main goal was to create an environment where the person that lost would have the opportunity to stay on the show through a steal.”

Turns out, Britton was declared the battle round winner by coach Alicia Keys, putting Jaclyn’s Voice future in jeopardy.

And she was nearly off the stage when Blake Shelton pushed his steal button.

For Jaclyn and Britton: Mission accomplished.

Britton admitted he might have had an edge during the battle.

“I’ve done that song in my shows since it came out a couple of years ago. Having a song I’ve been performing for a couple years now and love, I felt fortunate.”

As for the performance, Jaclyn said: “We were really just enjoying the moment of the song. Britton and I were working on it so long. Being in the moment was a really great experience. We were really jiving off one another’s energy.”

On a season of The Voice that features lots of seasoned singers, Britton and Jaclyn are two of the youngsters.

Britton, 18 when he auditioned, is from Sanford, N.C.; Jaclyn, 16 when she auditioned, is from Placerville, Calif.

We’ll see them again in the knockout round. Those matches begin airing Monday night on The Voice. The winners advance to the live playoffs.
