I’ve listened to an advance copy. And, folks, if you liked what Red did on the show, you’re going to love his album “Country As Cornbread,” which lands Friday.
Pop-country? Forget it. Rap lyrics embedded in a country song? Forget it.
Red is serving up an album that fits its title.
And he told Voice Views it all stems from an important lesson he learned under the tutelage of coach Blake Shelton.
“Being on The Voice allowed me to find out for myself that it’s okay to just be who you are and sing the kind of music you love,” Red said.
“So with that in mind, I recorded this record with a dear friend (producerr) Jimmy Ritchey and did not give any thought to anything other than cutting songs that I thought were amazing, even if I didn’t write them all.
“Blake Shelton always said ‘just be who you are’ — so that’s what this record is to me. It is who I am.”
Red, 40 when he auditioned for The Voice, had released three EPs before the show. But he calls the new album “my absolute favorite of all the recordings I have ever done.”
As for the title, Red said “country as cornbread is how I have always describe myself,” so it just seemed fitting.
The title song is one of six Red co-wrote for the album. Another is “My House in Heaven,” which he released as a single a couple of weeks ago.
Red said the song “is written directly from my thoughts of what heaven will be when I get there. Seems like a country boy’s paradise to me. It has everything I love: Hunting, fishing, 4×4’s, camouflage (my favorite color) and my wife’s amazing sweet potato casserole.”
Red also co-wrote two of the album’s other standout tracks — “Four Ounces at a Time” and “The Good Ones.”
“Country As Cornbread” is available for pre-order now. Autographed copies of the CD will be available from Red’s website. The Marlow family cornbread recipe will even be featured on the CD insert.
Now you don’t get more country than that.
If you missed “House in Heaven,” take a listen.

While I’m not a big country music fan. My wife and I watched The Voice season 13 and here comes Red, Red, Red, Red, Red, on team Blake Shelton. Red took us on a journey last season and it felt like we were along for the ride as well. A traditional Country Music artist that is a story teller. There aren’t a lot of those in Country Music these days. This album is FANTASTIC. I can’t stop listening to it and the meaning of all the songs. This will be relevant music forever. Well done Red Marlow couldn’t be more proud of you and where your going. Will be listening for sure.
