New Idol Music, Season 10

Another Season 10 compilation album goes on sale tonight

Another American Idol compilation album goes on sale after Wednesday's show. (FOX Photo)So, did you all run right out Tuesday and buy a copy of  “American Idol’s 10th Anniversary — The Hits, Vol. 1”?

Didn’t think so.

I mean, it’s nice to celebrate Idol history. I think the show should make a habit of inviting back former contestants on every results show this season. (Lee DeWyze is up tomorrow night, by the way.)

But to release an album that includes David Cook’s “Light On,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” and Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” (along with nine other Idol hits) seems sort of pointless.

If you’re a fan of those artists, these are the songs you own. And if you don’t have these songs already, it’s probably because you aren’t a fan and don’t want them.

If there’s a volume two, I’d rather it focus less on hits than on bonus tracks many of us might have missed along the way.

On a brighter note, I loved the idea Idol unveiled last week of offering all the tracks performed on the Top 13 as a compilation album. I loved the price — $7.99 — even more.

Individually, these tracks sell for  $1.29.  It doesn’t take a math whiz to figure out you’re getting a bargain if you can snag 13 tracks for $7.99.

And Idol just sent out a press release indicating this compilation album concept is apparently around to stay.

A compilation album featuring tonight’s Top 12 performances will go on sale tonight at 10 p.m. PST (1 a.m. EST). And, again, the price will be $7.99.

Nice deal, Idol.
