Just before he accepted the Republican nomination for president at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in the summer of 2016, there was a musical interlude on national TV.
During it, a country-rock sounding song called “Make American Great Again” was performed as delegates clapped and danced along.
The man behind that song and that performance is none other than Dave Fenley, newly minted member of Team Blake Shelton on The Voice.
He talked about the experience during a Tuesday conference call with the media.
“There’s a former contestant from The Voice who’s a friend of mine, Jordy Searcy. He had the opportunity to go and perform at the Republican Convention and he extended that invitation to me. I said I’d do it.
“Then, for a birthday present for a friend of mine, I said, ‘Hey, let’s just have some fun and write a song and see what happens.’ So we wrote the song ‘Make American Great Again.’ And sure enough, they said, ‘We want you to perform that at the convention.’
“It was an amazing opportunity.”
Ah, but the key question? Would Dave Fenley — who released an EP last summer called “The Spread Love Sessions” — perform it again at the Republican convention in 2020?
“I’m not an overly political person at all,” Dave told Voice Views. “It probably wouldn’t be a good decision for my career to align with anything right now politically, so I’m not sure I would do it again in 2020.
“But it was an amazing experience and quite an honor.”
On The Voice, Dave’s show-opening blind audition performance of Travis Tritt’s “Help Me Hold On” turned two chairs Monday night and helped him land that coveted spot on Team Blake.

I don’t buy his story. It reeks of damage control and pandering for votes.
Fenley is most likely TCO and he knows it.
It fits the show’s agenda, Blake’s, and Mark Burnett’s to have a country rock singer win to cater to that audience and to the Republican Party.
