Jake Wells released an EP and a series of singles before showing up on The Voice stage.

Now the young man from Kansas City is planning a post-show single based on his experience on the show.

Jake made it all the way to the knockout round on Season 15 before being eliminated in a knockout round match with DeAndre Nico.

Before that, he earned a spot on Team Adam Levine with a blind audition performance of “When the Stars Go Blue” by Ryan Adams and scored a battle round win, singing “Closing Time” with Natalie Brady.

Here’s what Jake, 23 when he auditioned, told Voice Views about his time on the show and his music moving forward.

Voice Views: The knockout round was filmed in mid-August. What have you been doing musically since then?

Jake: Writing nonstop, practicing, solidifying personnel for the live show, and preparing to record.

Voice Views: Where do you see The Voice experience leading you musically?

Jake: This experience has been a window into the world of professional musicality. I fully intend to use my newfound knowledge and confidence to continue to find success and joy in what I do.

Voice Views: Are there any plans for new music and, if so, what can you tell me about those? How do you think any new music will compare with what you’ve already released?

Jake: New music; absolutely, I will release a song about what it felt like to go through this crazy ride in the very near future. It will be called “The Other Side.”

In comparison to what I have already released, my music will consistently be an invitation to hear what I believe my experiences feel like. The hope is that even though we all have different experiences, the emotions that come out of those are common across the board. I think music give us a space to look at those emotions and know we are not alone in what we feel, and also, what we feel isn’t the enemy, it’s something we can get with and celebrate. Music helps us do that.

Voice Views: Which was your favorite Voice performance and why?

Jake: Without hesitation it was “Closing Time” With Nat (Natalie Brady). I was the most comfortable there. I am use to playing music with people — harmony is my game — so to be put in a situation where I had to express dynamics on stage with another person, stand out, and also blend together, I was in my element.
