Dave Fenley took his second shot at a television reality competition on Season 15 of The Voice.
You might say he made the most of it, earning a spot on Team Blake Shelton and advancing all the way to the Top 10 with a series of solid performances.
Dave, 39 when he auditioned for The Voice, had previously competed on America’s Got Talent in 2013.
Prior to The Voice, he released a pair of albums and an EP called “The Spread Love Sessions Vol. 1” (2017).
He also has a patreon campaign underway for anyone who would like to support his music.
Here’s what Dave told Voice Views about his time on the show and his plans moving forward.
Voice Views: Where do you see The Voice experience leading you musically? What are your musical goals / aspirations now?
Dave: I’ve always been focused on writing great songs. Performance is just an outlet to tell a story. Now that I have a little more of America’s ear, I plan on sharing my songs to a lot more people. Very excited about that.
Voice Views: As a musician and artist, do you feel you grew/benefited as a result of the show and in what ways?
Dave: You know what I learned the most wasn’t necessarily musical in nature, but personally. I was extremely uncomfortable at first when going to wardrobe, hair, and makeup. They kept forcing me to do and try things i didn’t think were “me.” But when I got eliminated I had grown so much in those areas and learned so much about myself. In fact, the only time I broke down was saying goodbye to my wardrobe family. So grateful to them.
Voice views: Do you envision releasing new music soon? If so, can you tell me about that? Either what you have planned or what you’d like to do? And what sound fans can expect?
Dave: I’m planning on establishing a fan base that I can earn with my own music first. Then I will follow up with a record so that people will listen because they like what i do. Not just because I was on a great TV show. My sound will be similar to what I did on the show. Country and soul with a hint of occasional beat-box when it serves the song.
Voice Views: Which was your favorite Voice performance and why?
Dave: I still think my blind audition song “Help Me Hold On” will always be my fave. It started the ball rolling and gave me a chance to accomplish so much in this life.
Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Voice experience?
Dave: For anyone considering auditioning, please do it. There are so many opportunities I didn’t take in this life. The Voice is one that I’m so glad I didn’t miss. It’s not as much of a competition once you’re in it. It’s a bunch of friends that turn into family and you can help each other for the rest of your lives from an experience like this. Oh, and SPREAD LOVE LIKE PEANUT BUTTER.
