A sibling trio named The Bundys made history on The Voice blind audition episode that aired Tuesday night.
They became the first trio ever to compete on the show.
The Voice didn’t really introduce us to Megan, Ryan and Katey, but they’ve been performing together for about eight years.
That’s long enough that the group has already released an album and an EP and toured with LeAnn Rimes. For lots more on The Bundys, head to this Voice Views profile.
Meanwhile, it might not have been official Voice history, but Adam Levine called 18-year-old Dominic Haynes his favorite singer in The Voice’s 16 seasons.
That might have been overstating it a bit, but there’s no doubt the young man from Tampa, Fla., has a distinct sound. And brought a ton of passion to the stage.
Here’s a recap of Tuesday’s auditions.
BEST OF THE NIGHT
Domenic Haynes, 18, Tampa, Fla.: He auditioned with “River” by Leon Bridges and had Adam Levine turn almost immediately. John Legend soon followed, only to discover he’d been blocked by Adam. Blake joined them near the end of the of a very passionate performance. John praised his tone. Adam called him his favorite singer in 16 seasons of The Voice. Domenic opts to join Team Adam.
RUNNER-UP
The Bundys, Nashville, Tenn.: They auditioned with “Closer to FIne” by the Indigo Girls and earned quick chair turns from Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. This marks the first time a trio has ever made The Voice, and The Bundys are very impressive. I’m sure the country vibe prevented Adam Levine and John Legend from turning. Blake says he thought ‘oh, no’ when he turned to discover a trio on stage. But the ‘oh, no, quickly became an ‘oh, yes,’ when he realized how great they are. The Bundy opted to join Team Kelly.
ALSO EARNED SPOTS ON THE SHOW
Savannah Brister, 17, Memphis, Tenn.: Showing off a soulful voice, Savannah covered “Don’t You Worry Bout a Thing” by Stevie Wonder. She gets an early chair turn from John Legend and winds up coaxing Kelly to turn as well. Kelly said Savannah was so good, it was disrespectful not to turn around. John called her musical selections “perfection.” Savannah joined Team John.
Hannah Kay, 18, Magnolia, Texas: She auditioned with “Coal Miner’s Daughter” by Loretta Lynn. She has a really nice country voice. And she earned quick chair turns from Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton. She also delivered a very nice ending. Kelly pushed the Texas connection. Blake calledHannah the real deal and calls her incredible. Hannah joins Team Blake.
Julian King, 25, Philadelphia, Pa.: He auditioned with “All-Time Low” by Jon Bellion. He got very quick chair turns from Adam Levine and JOhn Legend. Ah, but look at that: Adam was blocked by John. This was a solid audition, but just like Adam and John aren’t prone to turn for a country artist, I imagine the fact that Kelly and Blake didn’t turn has more to do with the genre than the performance. John called Julian’s voice clear and powerful. Thanks to the block, John lands Julian.
NO CHAIRS, BUT COMEBACK STAGE BOUND
Klea Olson, 20, Layton, Utah: She auditioned with “No Roots” by Alice Merton. She showed off a big voice, but the audition is a bit uneven and no chairs turn. Adam and Kelly both encouraged her to try auditioning again. Turns out the second change will come sooner than Klea probably imagined. She’s the next artist on the Comeback Stage.
