The inspirational song is more rock-oriented than we’re used to hearing from Nick.
It’s also the first release in about a year and a half from the 33-year-old, who won Season 14 of American Idol but has had trouble finding chart success since.
In a new interview with KISS 95-7, Nick says he’s spent much of the past six months in the studio, creating a backlog of songs and working out his sound moving forward.
He says “EMPIRE” is one of the first songs he ever wrote on electric guitar and calls it a powerful rock anthem.
“It’s definitely got some grit to it. It means a lot to me and it’s about basic just believing in yourself and making something greater with yourself than you ever thought you could. It’s a motivational song and I think people are going to relate to it.”
As for the other new songs, Nick said he’s most likely to release them as singles so each one “has its moment.”
Here’s “EMPIRE.”
