When Dexter Roberts showed up on The Voice stage, he was already familiar to lots of singing show fans.

Back in 2014, he had appeared on Season 13 of American Idol and made it all the way to seventh place.

But his plans to use Idol as a launching pad to a career in country music were derailed when he got Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick Fever. In fact, that forced him to drop out of the summer tour that followed Season 13.

You might say he’s rebounded nicely on The Voice. Dexter, 27, when he auditioned, turned four chairs in his first performance on the show, landed a spot on Team Blake Shelton and is now one of four singers bound for Monday’s Season 16 finale.

Here’s more about Dexter:

* Dexter hails from Fayette, Ala., told The Voice he started to play guitar around age 10 or 11 and drove his mother crazy playing “Sweet Home Alabama” over and over again.

* He’s released two EPs since American Idol — the four-song “Dream About Me” in 2015, and the five-song “Dexter Roberts Unplugged” in 2017.

* Comparing American Idol and The Voice, Dexter told Hollywood Life. “I love this experience more than what I got from Idol because they work with you so much here. The vocal team, the band is like 100 percent your band. You walk in and they are like 100 percent your garage band. They want us all to think that. It’s a really cool experience.”

Here are Dexter’s performances from The Voice.
