David Cook, New Idol Music

David Cook fans in for a double treat next week

11

David Cook will release a new single, "The Last Goodbye," next week. Update 2: “The Last Goodbye” goes on sale tomorrow, and the song just started streaming on David’s website. Wow, it’s great to hear new music from David. It’s been too long. And this certainly sounds like a hit. More of a rocker than I expected from the song title. Wow, again. I’ve just listened to the song six times, and haven’t been tempted to cut it off. Great song. Great sound. Nice way to brighten up a Monday.

Update: This, just posted on David Cook’s website. Great news. David’s second album, “This Loud Morning,” is set for release June 28. Pre-sales for the album begin Tuesday on his site.
David Cook fans are in for multiple treats next week.

First, on Tuesday, we get long-awaited new music from the Season 7 champ.

He’ll release a single entitled “The Last Goodbye.”  You can check out the lyrics on David’s website.

Then on Thursday, David returns to the Idol stage to perform the song on the weekly results show.

FOX confirmed that in a press release after last night’s show.

Also performing next week will be Katy Perry, singing her hit, “E.T.”  The Idols will tackle songs of the 21st century.

David, meanwhile, was the last truly successful Idol winner.

His self-titled debut album, released in 2008, went platinum in a matter of months. It featured four songs that cracked the Billboard Hot 100. And three of those cracked the top 30.

David Cook's new album, "This Loud Morning," will be released in June. And winning Season 7 was no small feat in itself. Hate to burst another of your fantasy bubbles, Nigel Lythgoe, but I think that season, not Season 10, featured the best top to bottom talent your show has ever seen.

Just think back to all the magical performances that year. David’s “Billie Jean” and “Little Sparrow,” among others. David Archuleta’s “Imagine.” Jason Castro’s “Hallelujah.” Brooke White’s “Let It Be.”

Not to mention some very excellent music those contestants have released since the season ended.

While we’re waiting for the new music, here’s a link to a new David interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Editor’s Note: And if you want to relive any of those magical moments from Season 7, go here to watch the videos.

I agree with you about the talent-level in Season 7. I have watched Idol since the beginning, and have had favorites in every season. But across the board I think the strongest Top 10 was in that year. It was a diverse group with a good mix of strong voacals and musicality, plus really likable personalities. Cook was a fantastic winner as well – really looking forward to his new music.

Listening to David Cook’s new single, The Last Goodbye” & it is awesome. Season 7 was absolutely the most talented group in my opinion & of course, Cook was & is the best Idol ever. Cannot wait til Thursday to see him sing the new song & be back in my living room. I predict a huge HUGE hit for this song.

Double treat to be sure! I LOVE “The Last Goodbye”! It rocks and is addicting, like all of David Cook’s music. I can’t wait to buy this single, to hear/see him on Idol Thursday, and to get his CD on 6/28! He was definitely the best Idol winner for me, and you’re right Season 7’s top 10 was the best top 10. So deserving for Cook to win it! Did I say I love “The Last Goodbye”?! 🙂

Season 7 is the most defining moment of AI. A great winner versus a great runner-up.
