Age is just a number. And it’s never too late for a second chance.
The former background singer for Earth, Wind and Fire had stepped away from music to deal with substance abuse and issues stemming from her childhood.
But there she was, back on stage at age 44, singing for The Voice’s four superstar coaches.
It turned out to be a triumphant return to the stage as Myracle’s heartfelt rendition of Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man” prompted two chair turns and earned her a spot on Team Gwen Stefani for Season 17.
Here’s what Myracle, now living in Los Angeles, told Voice Views about her blind audition experience.
Voice Views: How did you wind up auditioning for The Voice Season 17 and what prompted you to do it?
Myracle: I received an invite in my DMs from a casting agency who saw my YouTube and social media videos of me singing. So they asked me to audition. At first, I said, “That’s OK” because I had gone through similar auditions and I was turned down, but a strong voice inside of me said, “Give it one more try!” And I did! So happy I listened.
Voice Views: Why did you choose “When I Was Your Man” for your audition song? Is it one you’ve performed often?
Myracle: I really love the song and the subject content. I like the fact that it’s letting the person I should have done the things that I was supposed to do when I was with you but it’s too late. I can relate to this story from past relationships.
I’ve been on both sides of the coin where I didn’t give what I should have given in a relationship and the person broke up with me, and I wanted to make it right but it was too late. And on the other hand, I’ve been in relationships where I wasn’t being treated like I deserve to be treated and by the time I was leaving the relationship they wanted to make it right, but it was too late. And I am just a big fan of Bruno Mars’s singing and his writing
Voice Views: Why did you decide to join Team Gwen?
Myracle: My heart said to pick her. I just really felt that she was a good fit for me. Because she saw me beyond the music she saw my heart. And she connected the heart of me to my voice. I just truly felt like she gets it. And I just connected with her.
Voice Views: And what was that blind audition experience like? In spite of what I thought was a great audition, it took a while for chairs to turn. Was that nerve-wracking?
Myracle: My blind audition experience was out of this world. While on that stage, it still felt so surreal. Even though the chairs didn’t turn for me right away, I didn’t concern myself with that because I had to make sure I stayed in the moment and was the best version of Myracle and I just stayed in that space and place and just sang my heart out. But it was a great feeling when the chairs did turn. And I’m so grateful and thankful for it.
