His audition: Matthew McQueen, 21, of Georgetown, Texas, performed “Someone You Love” by Lewis Capaldi. Matthew had Kelly Clarkson raving over his vocal tone no more than the song began. But she didn’t turn until well into the cover, after Matthew showed off a bit of grittiness in his vocal as well. Blake Shelton eventually turned as well. Kelly said she waited a while to turn because she wanted to see if he got nervous and was pleased that he didn’t. Nevertheless, Matthew opted to join Team Blake.

Here’s more about Matthew.

* On his website, Matthew describes his music as soul-infused pop.

* He also plays piano and is a self-taught guitarist.

* While he hails from Georgetown, Texas, he says he’s been working on new music in Atlanta, Ga., with Mitchell and Scott Productions.

* He says his biggest musical inspirations are Gavin DeGraw, Andy Grammer, and Marvin Gay.

* Matthew released a single called “Party and Bulls—” in the summer of 2018.

* One of the reasons he chose Team Blake: Even before he announced to his family that he auditioned for the show, his sister and grandmother had dreams that he auditioned and that Blake Shelton turned for his performance.

* Matthew said he’s watched The Voice for years and chose his audition song because it’s about something hard to attain — like a viable career in music.

* According to his Voice bio, he grew up around music and played his first gig with the family band when he was just 8.

* He sells gold and silver investments with the U.S. Gold Bureau. He told The Voice he loves his job, “but it’s not my passion.”
