During her blind audition bio package, we heard how Brooke Stephenson left a sales coordinator position in the music industry to focus on her own music.
And we’re about to hear that music. Brooke is planning to release some of what she’s been working on before the end of the year.
The 28-year-old from Bolton, Conn., turned three chairs during the blind audition on The Voice.
But her time on the show ended in the battle round, following a performance of “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele that was montaged, meaning we saw just a couple of seconds of it.
Here’s what Brooke told Voice Views about that battle round match with Damali, about her time on The Voice and about her new music.
Voice Views: What do you consider your biggest takeaway / lesson learned from The Voice experience?
Brooke: My biggest lesson learned was from Kelly during the rehearsal with Normani. Damali and I had worked hard on arranging the song, and we were ready to show Kelly, thinking the song was as good as it was going to get. When Kelly heard it, she transformed the arrangement in a way that we hadn’t even dreamed about. She made it so much better. It was awesome to watch and was such an important takeaway. I learned that your performance can always be improved, and it’s important to look at it from a different perspective.
Voice Views: Can you tell us a bit about the battle we didn’t get to see?
Brooke: This battle was special. I’m bummed the world didn’t get to see it. Two powerful singers singing a powerful song. We worked really hard at it and put a lot of practice into it. I was really happy with my performance, and I think we would’ve made Adele proud.
Voice Views: The battles were filmed over the summer. What have you been doing musically since then and where are you hoping The Voice experience leads?
Brooke: Since the battles, I’ve been performing at events around California, however, I’ve really been working hard on my album. I can’t wait to show it to the world.
Voice Views: Do you plan to release new music anytime soon? If so, can you tell me about that — what you’re planning, what fans can expert in terms of sound and the timetable for doing?
Brooke: Yes. I’m hoping to release my EP before the end of the year. It’s an Americana album, with a lot of rock and soul, mixed with folk, bluegrass and country. I’ll be releasing it as singles, so follow my socials for updates.
Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Voice experience?
Brooke: I’m so grateful for this experience. I feel so lucky to have been able to meet so many incredible people and learn lessons that I will carry with me into the next phase of my career. I met a lot of awesome people along the way, and I had so much fun. I’m grateful to have worked with Kelly.
