New post-Voice music released over the past two weeks includes singles from Brooke Simpson, Natasia GreyCloud, Malik Davage, Josh Hoyer and Royce Lovett.
Here’s a look at those releases. The links take you to the songs on Apple Music. Or you can check out the Spotify snippets below.
Brooke Simpson, third in Season 13, dropped a fun new single called “Real Long Nails,” her first release of 2020. Brooke explains that there weren’t many empowering women in the music industry when he was growing up. “Other than Destiny’s Child, just about everything else I listened to was always a message about the damsel in distress. So one day by myself on my back porch I decided to write the song I wish I had when I was a little girl. This is that song.”
Natasia GreyCloud from Season 15 has released her first single since her twice-saved run on the show. It’s a soulful song called “Forever.” Writes Natasia on Instagram: “Sometimes things come together, and sometimes they fall apart. I think we all know that feeling too well…so true to my nature, I let music carry me through, and this has been the outcome.”
Royce Lovett has been a music-releasing machine since Season 17 ended, already dropping an EP called “Keep Moving.” Well, he’s hosting a contest to give away a pair of noise-cancelling Bose headphones and promised a new song when he received 100 entries. Hence we have a new single called “Skin Tone.” And Royce has a whole lot more than 100 entries.
Malik Davage, who auditioned for The Voice seven times before earning a spot on Season 12, released “Woah,” his first single of 2020 late last month. He was promoting it big time on Valentine’s Day. Take a listen and you’ll understand why. It’s Malik’s first release since his 2019 album “The Call Back.” There’s also an accompanying music video.
Josh Hoyer from Season 12 and his band Soul Colossal released “Automatic” last week. It’s the first single off their fifth album “Changing,” which will be released this spring. Writes Josh: “My biggest goal as a songwriter is to write songs that feel like they’ve always existed. I want to write classic songs that have life long after I am gone. I think we accomplished this with ‘Automatic.’ The band has also announced that 50 percent of the proceeds from merchandise sales at their 2020 shows will go to the American Indian College Fund.
