Zach Day was eliminated on the opening night of battles on The Voice.

But the 26-year-old from Stearns, Kentucky, who’s now based in Nashville, says he’s surging ahead with a musical future.

Zach auditioned for The Voice with “Weak” by SVW, turned two chairs and opted to join Team John Legend.

In the battle round, he was pitted against four-chair turn recipient Mike Jerel. Both received praise for their performance of Miguel’s “Adorn,’ but John declared Mike the winner.

Here’s what Zach told Voice Views about his time on the show.

Voice Views: What do you consider your biggest takeaway / lesson learned from The Voice experience?

Zach: I’ve learned that my personality comes through when performing. I’ve also learned that I have to continue to work just as hard if not harder than I was working before the show. The pressure is on now, but I’ve been working my ass off for years as a musician and now I have to jump back in and keep it up!! I’m so honored to have had the opportunity.

Voice Views: What are your post-Voice plans musically? Where are you hoping this opportunity leads?

Zach: I plan to reach out and continue to build my network and, hopefully, a fan base. I want to tour and play my own music, but I always have goals to work with other bands and artists. My “vision board” includes Postmodern Jukebox, Scary Pockets, singing BGVs for my favorite artists (Kimbra, Jacob Collier, tuneyards?).

Voice Views: Do you have plans to release new music? If so, what can you tell us about that?

Zach: I am constantly writing and recording music at home. I’ve been making demos throughout the quarantine so I might even have a “quarantine sessions” EP available soon haha! I’m also always writing music for other artists and co-writing with some amazing producers worldwide. I’m trying to expand my recording and editing skills all the time too!

Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Voice experience?

Zach: I had a lot of fun. It was hard to watch myself go home as I’m probably my own worst critic. I’ve probably never felt heartbreak like that. I wanted to show so much more of my versatility as an artist. But to even have the opportunity to work with John, Paul and The Voice band, and everyone else was amazing and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. If there is an All Stars season, I’m DOWN!!!
