But Raquel Castro this week became the first to have her song selected as the night’s winner.
As a result, “Wrong Places,” written by Raquel is now available on Apple Music as recorded by H.E.R.
Raquel was one of four songwriters to pitch a song on Monday’s third episode of Season 2.
She wound up working with Ryan Tedder to turn her original song into a finished product to pitch to H.E.R.
It wound up being H.E.R.’s favorite of the night.
“If you would have asked me a year ago if I ever could imagine myself singing a song I wrote in a crazy, vulnerable and messy place in my life on national television, AND pitching it to one of my favorite R&B artists my answer would be ‘yea, sure, okay. Let’s be real,’ Raquel wrote on Instagram.
She describes “Wrong Places” as “a song that helped me found myself again.”
Now 25, Raquel was a Top 16 contestant on the very first season of The Voice. She since appeared as Marisol on the FOX series “Empire” and is featured as part of a girl group on the show’s Season 2 soundtrack.
Here are Raquel’s versions of “Wrong Places.”
