Adam will sing “Believe” with Katie Kadan of Team John Legend.
Other duets include:
* Little Big Town will perform “Over Drinking” with Jake Hoot of Team Kelly Clarkson.
* Gary Clark Jr. will perform “Pearl Cadilla with Ricky Duran of Team Blake Shelton.
* Yolanda Adams iwll perform “In the Midst of It All” with Rose Short of Team Gwen Stefani.
Those duets will be sprinkled among a number of other guest performances that will feature Jennifer Hudson, The Black Eyed Peas, Luke Combs, Lady Antebellum and Dua Lipa.
In addition, Season 16 Voice champ Maelyn Jarmon will be on hand to perform her cover of “Have YOurself a Merry Little Christmas.” She’s released that cover to streaming sites as Maelyn.
Oh, and for those counting, yep, if you include Kelly Clarkson, that means three former American Idol standouts will be featured as some point tonight compared to just one former Voice standout.
Combine that ratio with Idol’s willingness to allow contestants to sing original songs and Idol’s ability to help aspiring artists build social media armies and … well, The Voice might just be sending an unintentional message to singers considering a singing show future.
Oh, I counted something else too. The paragraphs in NBC’s official press release about tonight’s season finale.
It includes one paragraph about the Season 17 Top 4. It includes 10 paragraphs devoted to promoting tonight’s guest stars.
And there’s nary a mention of the other Season 17 contestants who will be returning to perform, like Max Boyle, Alex Guthrie, Joana Martinez and Gracee Schriver.
The Voice is so star-obsessed and so indifferent to promoting past contestants that it’s reached the point of absurdity.
