But on Twitter, Los Angeles-based Alisan says she’s moving to Nashville to finish work on a post-show album.
And is she still on the Republic Records roster? Or is she going to record the album independently? Who knows?
She’s not listed on the Republic Records artist roster, but then again, neither is Season 11 winner Sundance Head. Republic Records is still mentioned on Alisan’s website.
But Alisan’s also hinted at stumbling blocks regarding new music on Twitter.
Here’s a series of tweets she posted Wednesday.
* “Tomorrow I leave for the motherland #Nashville to write and record with some of my favorite human in the entire world. #allthefeels”
* “What I represented to you all on @NBCTheVoice was exactly who I am. So I am going to give you an album that encompasses that.”
* “I almost allowed the ‘powers that be’ to change that. But being inauthentic just isn’t me. I’ve worked too hard to know who I am.”
* “So thank you for your patience and your love and understanding. This new journey is nothing without you all.”
* “Although this was at times a very painful process, I am sure it was exactly what I needed to make the art that you will FEEL and embrace.”
If Alisan ran into trouble seeing eye-to-eye musically with her record label after The Voice, she’d join a distinguished list that includes Josh Kaufman, Craig Wayne Boyd, Matt McAndrew and Chris Jamison. All were initially signed to a label following the show. Their collective output: one single from Matt.
Season 8 winner Sawyer Fredericks recently parted ways with Republic. And Season 10 runner-up Billy Gilman said he was hoping not to win the show so he wouldn’t be tied to the label.
In fact, the only success the label has had with a show standout is Season 9 winner Jordan Smith. His cover album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. And it’s great, if you’re looking for an album where a standout singer performs someone else’s hits.
Sorry, but personally, I’m not looking to add Jordan’s version of “Amazing Grace,” “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” or “So It Goes” to my music library. I’d prefer something original.
Alisan appeared on Good Day L.A. back in late December. You can watch videos of her interview and performance on her website.
Interestingly, there wasn’t a mention of new music. And the song she performed — “Stay” — was from her fine 2014 pre-show album, “Who We Are.”
