Jessica Sanchez, Season 11, Season 11 finals

An ‘incredible moment’ on American Idol’s results show

Ryan Seacrest called it an “incredible moment.”

It was incredible, all right.

Incredibly hard to believe that Jessica Sanchez was the contestant standing center stage, forced to sing for her Idol life Thursday night.

Yep,16-year-old Jessica Sanchez.  The contestant who turned in one of the best performances with “Stuttering” Wednesday.  A performance so good she received a tweet of congratulations from Jazmine Sullivan, whose song she sang.

Yep, Jessica Sanchez.  The gal who looks like a star every week.  The gal who sings like a star every week.  The gal who has performed so well since the finals began, she should be the American Idol if the competition ended now.

But, if we believe Idol, she was this week’s low vote-getter.

I suppose it’s possible.  She sang in the middle of the pack Wednesday.  She sang a ballad.  She received rave reviews, but it’s possible her fans got complacent, thinking there was no way she could be sent home.

In fact, the good folks at DialIdol.com predicted she was in the danger zone.  Along with Elise, Hollie and Colton.

In the end, it matters not.  The judges rushed the stage they were in such a hurry to save Jessica.  Jennifer Lopez snatched the mike from Jessica’s hand before she could even launch into the chorus of her save-me song.

Somewhere, I’m sure Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe was smiling devilishly, watching the drama unfold.

But for high drama, this was pretty tame.

I mean, Steven Tyler spoiled the suspense by telling us the judges would use the save when Ryan presented a final three of Joshua Ledet, Elise Testone and Jessica.

As for Jessica, let’s just say her reaction was a whole lot more subdued than Casey Abrams’ was a year ago.

You all remember Casey’s reaction.  He slumped to the stage in disbelief.  He rushed the judges table to make sure he was hearing right.  Heck, he had to be helped off stage afterward.

Jessica?

“I don’t expect anything,” she told Ryan when asked if she was shocked by the results.  “I just do what I do.  Whatever happens happens.”

And, in the end, nothing happened.

No one was eliminated.  We still have a final seven.

But you can bet Jessica’s supporters won’t be the least bit complacent a week from now.
