Season 5, The Voice

And now The Voice brings us ‘the instant save’

If you haven’t caught on by now, The Voice loves “the save.”

In past years, we’ve had coaches saving contestants in the battle rounds. We’ve had coaches saving one of three low vote-getters after the first live round.

This year, for the first time, we had coaches’ saves in the knockout rounds.

Heck, two contestants got saved twice, winding up back on their original team before all was said and done.

One of those, Will Champlin, will be competing on tonight’s Top 12 show.

And now, the latest: The Voice introduces the “instant save.” And it’s yours.

For the next four weeks, The Voice will be announcing the three low vote-getters prior to the end of the show.

As is routine on The Voice, two of those contestants will go home. But the decision on which contestant survives is now up to you.

At host Carson Daly’s signal, you’ll have five minutes to send a tweet to save the contestant of your choice.

You’ll need to use the hashtag #VoiceSave and mention the contestant’s name.

The same company that authenticates votes on The Voice will tally the results, and the saved contestant will be announced at the end of the show.

Now, if you’re wondering how this will work when not all of America watches The Voice at the same time … well, Carson Daly and company have that figured out, of course.

They’re going to send out a tweet with the names of the endangered contestants that anyone who follows @nbcthevoice will see at the same time the folks watching on the East Coast learns who lands in the bottom three.

Then those fans can tweet during the same five-minute window as those living in the Eastern and Central time zones.

Gotta confess, I don’t know if the show that limits the number of votes you can cast is also limiting the number of tweets that count toward a save.

But should Kat Robichaud or Jacquie Lee wind up in the bottom three on Tuesday, I guess I’ll find out.
