Casey James, New Idol Music

At long last, a debut album from Casey James

Think back to the Season 9 auditions, American Idol fans.

Remember the young man who took down his hair, then stripped off his shirt at the request of Victoria Beckham and Kara DioGuardi.

That’s  right, Casey James.

Casey went on to finish third on American Idol that year, right behind Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox.

They released albums by the end of 2010, to modest commercial success.

Now, two full years after his audition, Casey’s about to release his self-titled album.

The 11-track disc hits stores March 20, and pre-orders are now being taken on his website.

This has to be one of the longest waits ever for a first album from someone signed right after the show.

Casey addresses that issue in a recent press release announcing the album.

“I could’ve released a record right when the season was over, but I wanted to make an album deserving of all the fans that put me in this position,”  Casey says.  “I feel like I’ve done that. And it feels good.”

Casey co-wrote nine of the 11 songs on his album, including the first single, “Let’s Don’t Call It a Night.”   That song was released about seven months ago and is currently number 27 on the Billboard country singles chart, just one spot under its peak position.

Now 29, Casey also plays acoustic and electric guitar on the album; you’ll recall the Idol judges were as impressed by his guitar skills as his voice.

And he co-produced most of the album with Chris Lindsey.

For those who don’t remember the audition, here it is again.

I’d forgotten how close Casey came to not making Hollywood on Idol.

But Casey certainly fulfilled his pledge in not making the judges regret their decision.

Always nice to read about Casey James. He has proven he’s not just a pretty face; but an extremely gifted musician. For the record: Shania Twain wasn’t present when Casey auditioned for Idol. Victoria “Posh” Beckham was and Randy Jackson suggested that Casey take his shirt off after she and Kara were impressed with Casey’s “look”. Sorry to correct you Mark, but some moments remain unforgetable:-)

Thanks for the correction. I momentarily got Casey confused with John Park, I do believe. Blog has been corrected.

if anyone has been following Casey since the end of Idol, they know that he is a very genuine, classy guy who happens to be extremely handsome and most importantly, extremely talented. the music he has revealed in his concerts is very solid and i look forward to his album. he is multi-talented and i think it’s a given he will have a long career ahead of him.

Thanks for the update on Casey. I’ve been listening to some of his new music as he plays it live and it’s exactly what I’d hoped for from him. A bluesy, rocky country sound that makes me really happy I kept up with this guy. Can’t wait for the actual recorded music.

I don’t get much time to watch TV, so unfortunately I missed seeing Casey on American Idol. Thank goodness for YouTube!

MY Best friend sent me a link to the video for his single last fall, and I fell in love with the song! I’ve loved his music ever since and I’m axiously awaiting my preordered copy of his CD! Also looking forward to seeing him, live, in May, at Toby Keith’s I Love this Bar in MN and Joes Bar in IL.
