The Voice opted to air just a tiny snippet of the Season 14 battle round match between Austin Giorgio and Brett Hunter.

According to the participants, viewers missed a fun time.

Brett wrote on Facebook that he was ‘pretty devastated” the performance was cut short.

“It. Was. Crazy!” he added. “By the end of the song, I was basically on my knees hitting the highest note of my life.”

Added Austin during a conference call with the media: “We went crazy. We jumped in the crowd. We went crowd surfing.”

Austin quickly admitted he was joking.

Brett was not.

But Austin added, quite seriously, that he and Brett decided to try “a unique take on the song” to better fit a duet by two male artists on The Voice stage.

“He and I were both singing about ‘Me and Mrs. Jones,’ and we both wanted her,” he explained. “Instead of feeling bad about losing Mrs. Jones, we were trying to fight each other for Mrs. Jones. We just tried to push a different emotion in the song, which was interesting and fascinating to do.”

While Voice fans missed the taped performance, they can still check out the difference in the iTunes version of the song.

Austin said it generated lots of good feedback from the judges.

“I think — and I think Brett would say the same — it was just a really fun way for both of us to craft each other. We helped each other try new things. It forced us to learn.”

Voice coach Blake Shelton declared Austin, from Rochester, N.Y, the winner of the battle. Brett was eliminated.

Austin, 21 when he auditioned, now advances to the knockout round. Those head-to-head solos begin airing Monday on The Voice. Winners advance to the live playoffs.
