Ayanna Joni won the first battle round matchup on The Voice’s new comeback stage.

Six contestants were selected for the online-only competition, which will lead two singers back to Season 15 of The Voice and one back to the live shows.

Ayanna, a 29-year-old former child actor from Yonkers, N.Y., was pitted against Madison Cain, the 24-year-old daughter of Jonathan Cain of Journey.

Ayanna performed Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous Woman;” Madison sang Lady Gaga’s “You and I.”

Ayanna seemed to take coach Kelsea Ballerini’s advice by “muddying up” her performance, especially near the end.

Meanwhile, Madison delivered such a nice tender ending that I wound up wishing she had performed most of the song that way and just picked one or two spots to belt as opposed to going full bore for nearly the entire opening of the song.

Kelsea declared Ayanna the winner, meaning she advances to the second round of the Comeback Stage. Two of the three singers making the second round will be invited to perform on the show.

Here’s the first Comeback Stage battle round.
