This week, it was New Movie Tuesday, not New Music Tuesday, that brought a treat for American Idol fans.

In fact, a triple treat for fans of Season 7 contestant Brooke White.

P&G (Procter and Gamble) and Walmart finally released the DVD/CD combo for “Change of Plans,” a Family Movie Night telefilm that aired on FOX back in April.

The movie tells the tale of Sally Danville (Brooke), an aspiring singer, and her Air Force pilot husband, who find their busy lives suddenly a whole lot busier when a friend dies and leaves behind four young children, all of different nationalities.

Brooke does a wonderful job considering this is her acting debut. She credits part of that to the fact that she got to play a character she has so much in common with.

Brooke White in "Change of Plans"As for the triple treat, the DVD also includes the aforementioned soundtrack CD, featuring three Brooke White tunes — “Love Loving You,” “Something Beautful” and “Let Us Live as One.”

You’ll also find a track from Season 7’s Michael Johns (“You Get What You Give”), plus excellent songs from Anna Gilbert (“This Day”) and Sam Asworth (“The Good Man”).

Then there are the DVD extras, which include two interviews with Brooke plus the video for “Something Beautiful.”

In the “Behind the Music” video, she explains how she came by her love of music.

“I grew up in a house where we were obsessed with music,” she says. “Constantly listening to my parents’ old records from the ’60s and ’70s. We had an old jukebox in our backyard. We used to jump on the trampoline and listen to those records.”

Brooke’s one of my all-time favorite Idol contestants, and if you haven’t checked out her post-Idol CD, “High Hopes & Heartbreak,” you should. It and Michael Johns’ “Hold Back My Heart” were easily two of the best Idol CDs released in 2009.

You can also hear Brooke on a couple of the other Family Movie Night DVD/CD combo packs. I just picked up “The Jensen Project” in Walmart’s DVD bargin bin for $5. It features the Brooke tune “Take It Away” plus Jordin Sparks covering “One Step at a Time.”

Now, here’s Brooke singing one of the songs you’ll find on the “Change of Plans” CD. And being introduced by none other than Randy Jackson.
