Brooke White has released a new single and has a new album on the way.

And anyone who listens will immediately know she has a new sound too.

The song and the album are called “Calico,” short for California country since this is a California country project.

In her web bio, Brooke says she spent years trying to squelch the country in her voice.

At the same time, she grew up listening to Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks, with George Strait and Reba McEntire influencing her music as much as Carole King and James Taylor.

She always envisioned herself heading to Nashville to make a country album at some point.

The mother of two never made it to Nashville. But she nevertheless embraced the country in her voice, recording “Calico” in East Los Angeles with the help of co-writers and producers Chris Qualls and Eric Straube.

On Instagram, she calls her new album “the most fun thing I’ve done musically to date. Get ready to dance. Turns out I was right where I needed to be to make the country record I’ve always wanted to make and I love it.”

Since finishing fifth on Season 7 of American Idol, Brooke has released three albums, four EPs as Jack & White with Jack Matranga and starred in a Hallmark movie. Her last major release was “Lost,” a 2016 Jack & White EP,

“Calico” will be out Oct. 4 and is available for pre-order now.

Here’s Brooke performing the single on FOX 11 in Los Angeles.
