Brynn Cartelli, Season 14 winner of The Voice, recently released her debut single, Last Night’s Mascara.

Seven months after being crowned as The Voice’s Season 14 champ, Brynn was back on the show’s stage for the Season 15 finale, singing her new single “Last Night’s Mascara.”

It’s a song she wrote. And it’s without doubt one of the catchiest first singles we’ve gotten from a former Voice winner.

Of course, the lyrics also freaked out some folks. After all, Brynn’s 15 and singing first person about waking up in someone else’s bed wearing last night’s mascara.

Brynn’s response: “It’s not about my actions. It’s called writing in character. My music tells stories and I’m dang proud of it. Hope this cleared up your confusion. 😊”

Hey, and it’s not like the song celebrates waking up wearing last night’s mascara.

More big things are in store for Brynn in 2019. She’ll be opening for her Voice coach Kelly Clarkson on a nearly 30-date tour that kicks off in late January.

I hesitate to call them the best because that’s very subjective. Besides, I easily could have made each of these lists five times as long and still omitted lots and lots of great music.

That’s why I grit my teeth when Marshmellow or Ann-Marie or even a coach or advisor winds up with a guest performance spot on The Voice. I’ll never understand why the show doesn’t do more to promote its alumni.

Ah, but this isn’t a time for griping. It’s time to celebrate the accomplishments of talented artists.
