Carrie Underwood won female vocalist of the year honors at the 50th annual CMA Awards Wednesday night.

Carrie Underwood was named female vocalist of the year for the first time since 2008 at the 50th annual CMA Awards Wednesday night.

But she missed out on the night’s big prize — Entertainer of the Year — after being nominated for that honor for the first time ever.

That award went to Garth Brooks. Other nominees for Entertainer of the Year included former Idol judge Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton and Luke Bryan, who won in 2014 and 2015.

Carrie took female vocalist of the year honors for three straight years between 2006-2008 before Miranda Lambert began a long run of wins in that category.

Miranda was nominated again this year, along with Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves.

Carrie missed out on wins in album of the year and musical event of the year categories as well. Album of the year honors went to Eric Church for Mr. Misunderstood. Musical event of the year honors went to Dierks Bentley and Elle King for their duo on “Different for Girls.”

Voice Season 4 winner Cassadee Pope was also nominated in that category for her “Think of You” duet with Chris Young.
