* Chance Pena from Season 9 released “Sleep Deprivation,” his first single of 2022, on Friday. It’s a song he wrote with fellow Season 9 contestant Zach Seabaugh. Pena said he actually started the song one night when he couldn’t sleep. “All night I tossed and turned until I stepped out of bed at 7am and picked up a guitar, the first words that came out of my mouth were the opening lines to this song. I wrote for about 30 minutes, recorded a voice memo and picked up Zach from the airport. I showed him what I had on the way back and we finished it that afternoon.”

* JD Casper from Season 20 released “The News” on Friday. “I wrote this song during quarantine,” JD writes on Instagram. “Like most people, I was watching the news trying to get a grasp on what was happening and why. But after a while I grew tired of watching the fear mongering day after day. My world could end tomorrow, and maybe it will. But I’m just one man trying to smile through life.” It’s JD’s first release of 2022.
