we weren’t watching a marriage unravel before our very eyes on American Idol last week, even if it seemed a bit that way.

You recall the audition I’m talking about. Husband and wife worship leaders Jordan and Alex Sasser auditioned together, after introducing their baby daughter to the judges.

Alex went first, playing ukulele and singing Bruno Mars’ “One Two Three.” She did not get a golden ticket.

Then Jason took the stage and sang “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,” written by Jim Steinman. He received a unanimous endorsement from the judges.

And, in the clip we saw, Alex didn’t take it very well, breaking down in tears and, at one point, seemingly accusing her husband of distracting the judges.

In truth, he simply had a song more suited to making an impression and made the most of that opportunity, earning praise for his vocals from all three judges.

And in a followup interview on Good Day Atlanta, Jordan and Alex made it clear that — surprise, surprise — not everything that happened that day made the Idol edit we saw.

“I was sad,” Alex says in an interview you can watch here. “It was a hard day. But I’m so excited for Jordan. Unfortunately, American Idol didn’t have time to show everything, all the times I was rooting on Jordan. I’m just so ecstatic.”

Added Jordan, 27, of Raleigh, N.C.: “If anything, I’m thankful American Idol got to see a husband and wife have a real moment. Life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes, you’re down and it’s just not a great moment. If anything, I hope people relate to that.

“The next day we were good. Alex said so many times for the camera, she was excited for me. And they didn’t show that. She’s been unbelievable … No matter what (people) saw on TV, we are Team Sasser. It sounds so cheesy to say, but we are Team Sasser.”

As noted before, Alex and Jordan are worship leaders at a pair of churches. On his Facebook page, Jordan says he’s the son of a businessman-athlete and a nurse-cheerleader and that both of his siblings are “impeccable athletes,” leaving him puzzled until he discovered his musical gifts in middle school.

“No one else in my family does anything related to music, but music is what God wanted to give me. And I can’t imagine my life without it.”

Head to iTunes, and you can find some worship music featuring Jordan’s vocals. I’ll also embed a couple of videos featuring him below. Plus an adorable video in which Alex and Jordan entertain Kelly Clarkson — yep, the original Idol — with a medley of her hits.

“All the rumors about Kelly being super awesome are definitely true,” Team Sasser writes in the description for that video.

You can follow Jordan on Facebook. On Twitter, he’s @JordanSasser333.
