House cleaning continues on American Idol

American Idol’s house cleaning continued Monday, proving FOX is serious about revamping the show in hopes of recapturing its former glory.

Executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick won’t be around for American Idol Season 13, FOX confirmed.

Nigel had already broken the news about his dismissal via Twitter.

“Just had 10 days in the Bahamas. Rain every day. I get back to the States and get fired. …. don’t worry, I’m still on (So You Think You Can Dance). FOX still loves me. It’s not a personal thing. They just feel Idol needs new leadership after 12 seasons.”

To be fair, after a dismal Season 9, Nigel helped pump new energy into the show for Season 10 and Season 11, though part of the credit for that goes to a diverse and talented cast of young singers.

But aside from a very talented Top 3, Season 12 was a disaster marked by a dismal group of male contestants, a dysfunctional quartet at the judges’ table and themes that seemed oh so tired.

I mean, when contestants are being forced to sing songs they say they’ve never heard before … well, you know that’s not the recipe for onstage magic.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that a replacement has already been selected — Per Blankens, who has overseen the Swedish version of American Idol for the past five seasons.

If so … well, Per, here’s a starting point: my 10 suggestions on how to save the show.

the only class on the show this year was Seacrest. he is the best in the business. the judges were horrific and totally boring. yo dog should have been let go a long time ago.when angie was voted out the panel showed discust and disbeleive. how do they think how kree and candice felt when they saw that??? angie is a broadway performer. candice was the best vocalist and kree will make the company more money than the rest altogether. i think the idea of former contestents is excellent. they know what it took to get there.
    just my opinion dennis thanx
