*** David Archuleta in the Philippines ***
Looks like Season 7 Idol runner-up David Archuleta is receiving a star’s welcome in the Philippines.
Before heading off on his mission work with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, David has gone to the Phillipines to appear in a TV mini-series that will be filmed over the next few weeks.
It’ll be his first acting gig, something he admits he’s a little nervous about in his latest video blog. Judging by the reaction of the fans on a TV5 Follow Archuleta website, they’re just happy to have David in their country.
Via Twitter, David said his Saturday included photo shoots and singing a traditional Filipino song called Nandito Ako. “Wish me luck, lol,” he writes. Today he tweeted that he was filming his first scenes for the mini-series.
It’s his fourth visit to the Philippines since winning Idol, and David praised the support he gets from the fans there in an interview published today.
In the mini-series, David plays a singer who is born in the Philippines but moves to the U.S. after his home is destroyed by fire at age 5. Years later, he returns in search of his mother and a girl he befriended after the fire.
*** Scotty on the Virtual Reality Tour ***
Brad Paisley’s Virtual Reality Tour kicked off Thursday night in Grand Rapids, Mich., with Scotty McCreery as his opening act.
Scotty performed for about 25 minutes and “was at his charming, old-school best on age-appropriate tunes,” according to a review in the Grand Rapids Press.
Remember, the tour comes to the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Md., on March 1. Here’s the link to ticket information.
The reviewer also said Scotty didn’t seem the least bit nervous about kicking off the show.
Well, that’s not what he told USA today for this story. “The nerves I had yesterday rivaled the nerves I had the American Idol finale night,” he said. You can read the full story here.
And below, you can watch Scotty’s performance of “Write My Number on Your Hand.”
*** All-Star Idol ***
Apparently, at one point, there was discussion of having all the previous Idol winners from the first 10 seasons return for an all-star Idol competition.
It never happened, but that didn’t keep Newsday from predicting what would happen if it had.
Check it out here. They rank where they think the first 10 Idols would have finished.
