Of course, the big Idol news on the Billboard charts this week is Daughtry’s debut at number one with the band’s sophomore album, “Leave This Town.”
But the charts also bring good news for Brooke White, especially since her first post-Idol album was only available on iTunes for the sales week they are based on.
And Billboard is already predicting a top 10 debut next week for season six Idol Jordin Sparks’ second album, “Battlefield.”
Here’s a rundown of all the Idols on the charts.
Kelly Clarkson: Her “All I Ever Wanted” CD was the last Idol album to hit number one on the Billboard 200. This week, its 19th on the chart, it plummets from 54 to 75. The second single off the album, ”I Do Not Hook Up,” is number 18 on the Pop chart, but drops from 39 to 53 among the Hot 100 singles.
David Cook: “Come Back to Me” is number 22 on the adult contemporary chart. The single jumps from 84 to 78 on the Hot 100. David’s album also jumped a bit this week, from 98 to 86 on the Billboard 200. The effect of an all-star appearance, perhaps? An older single, “Light On” continues a strong performance on the adult contemporary chart, checking in at number 10, one spot higher than last week.
Daughtry: In addition to the album’s number one debut, the single “No Surprise” vaulted from 37 to 27 on the Hot 100. “What About Now,” a single from the first album, checks in at number four on the adult contemporary chart. And the band’s first album jumped all the way from 100 to 65 on the Billboard 200. Not a bad week for Chris and the guys, huh?
Jennifer Hudson: “If This Isn’t Love” drops one spot to number 30 on the R&B singles chart. Meanwhile, Jennifer’s Grammy-winning debut album drops nine spots, from 37 to 46, on the R&B/Hip-Hop album chart.
Kellie Pickler: ”Best Days of Your Life,” her latest single, climbed one more spot to a new peak of 11 on the country singles chart. It’s also number 52 on the Hot 100, two spots higher than last week. Kellie’s self-titled second album leap-frogged Carrie Underwood on the country album chart, checking in at 16. It’s number 81 among the Billboard 200.
Jordin Sparks: “Battlefield,” the album, hit stores Tuesday. “Battlefield,” the single, held steady at number 25 among the Hot 100 and jumped from 28 to 11 on the Pop singles chart.
Carrie Underwood: “Carnival Ride,” released back in 2007, is nevertheless number 17 on the country album chart and number 82 on the Billboard 200. The latter represents a drop of 13 spots.
Brooke White: Brooke’s “High Hopes and Heartbreak” was available as a pre-release from iTunes last week and didn’t hit stores until Tuesday. Still, it checked in at number 50 on the Billboard 200 and at number seven on the independent album chart. A nice start for the season seven contestant.
