Woah, this is progress!

Ian Flanigan, third-place finisher on The Voice Season 19, and Jake Hoot, the Season 17 champ, are returning to The Voice this week to perform new music.

I’ve long bemoaned the show’s lack of support for past contestants and their new music.

Instead of featuring them in guest spots on the show, the spotlight winds up on artists who have already “made it” though there’s not an iota of evidence that celebrity guests boosts ratings.

In this case, kudos also go to their Voice coaches, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson, for their post-show support as well.

After all, both songs performed by former finalists next week are duets with their coaches.

Ian’s single, “Grow Up,” featuring Blake Shelton, will be out Friday. They’ll perform the song on Monday night’s episode of The Voice.

Then on Tuesday’s results show, Jake will perform “I Would Have Loved You.” The duet with Kelly that appears on his EP “Love Out of Time,” which came out in January.
