He earned the first four instant Twitter saves in the show’s history. He topped Tyanna Jones in the voting to advance to Wednesday’s show.
But, as expected, his string of close-call escapes ended at the end of the episode. He’s heading home.
And that means Jax, Nick Fradiani and Clark Beckham are still in the running for the Season 14 title, though one will be eliminated at the start of next Tuesday’s special 9 p.m. performance show.
Tonight’s recap:
Best of the Night: Jax seemed thrilled when Scott Borchetta asked her to sing “My Generation.” Everyone — judges and fans included — seemed thrilled when she’d finished stomping around the American Idol stage and putting her own stamp on the classic hit. The judges called it her best performance of the seaosn. It might have been the show’s best of the season.
Best performer of the night: Nick Fradiani takes it by a whisker. There wasn’t anything very imaginitive in his performances. He didn’t necessary deliver an Idol moment. He just took the stage and delivered three very, very solid performances, with the highlight probably coming when he covered “Because the Night” by Bruce Springsteen.
Runners-up: In terms of best individual performances, Clark Beckham bounced back from a string of subpar efforts to end his night with an excellent version of “Earned It.” Jax also impressed with her subdued take on “My Immortal” while sitting behind the piano, where she always seems to excel.
Worst of the night: Why, oh, why didn’t Jax listen to Charlotte Sometimes’ arrangement of “Misery Business” from The Voice (check video below to see what I mean)? Instead, Jax rearranged the song to the point of making it not very special at all. In the process, she missed a major opportunity to put her stamp on the Season 14 title.
Please keep her: That said, Jax takes risks, and shouldn’t that be rewarded? She, Joey Cook and Quentin Alexander made Season 14 more fun than Idol has been in at least the last four years.
Deserves to be in the finals: Jax, because she’s delivered the most memorable performances of the Top 3. Nick, because he’s been the most consistent and has improved over the course of the show.
And now, one of my all-time favorite singing show performances — Charlotte Sometimes’ (she now goes by Laces) rearrangement of “Misery Business.”

Sorry to say but after watching this season AI is in serious trouble because none of the Final 4 has any degree of supper start let alone star power.
Clark has the most talent. He is an outstanding musician and has crazy range. He just need direction and maturity and a lot more stage presence. Also found it strange that AI kept showing Clark’s friend” in the audience, was this a subtle hint at his being a closet gay?
Nick may be able to front a band ala Daughtry but he has so much less talent than Chris has.
As for AI’s infatuation with Jax I don’t understand it. With her level of talent I seriously doubt she would have gotten past the first battle round on The Voice.
This is the least talented group of finalists I have ever seen and I doubt there is any interest in who wins because the bottom line is they are all losers.
PS I just watched Caleb Johnson’s (last years AI winner) and it was awesome and no one this year comes close to his singing ability and stage presence.
ALL NICKS SONGS SOUND ALIKE. JAX IS GOOD BUT CLARK IS SELLING MORE ON ITUNES THAN ANYONE AND IS THE REAL MUSICIAN OF THE BUNCH. I’D NEVER GO SEE NICK OR JAX IN CONCERT BUT CLARK YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!
