Joei Fulco prevailed again on The Voice in the episode that aired Monday night, earning a spot in the show’s Season 18 playoffs.
Joei won her knockout round match with Levi Watkins thanks to an outstanding version of Linda Rondstadt’s “When Will I Be Loved.”
She received praise from all the coaches for her performance, and coach Blake Shelton named her the winner when it came time to announce his decision.
Joei previously turned two chairs in the blind audition and won her battle round performance with Todd Michael Hall.
Here’s what Joei, 22, of Lancaster, Calif,, had to say about her knockout round performance.
Voice Views: Can you elaborate a bit on that knockout round sound choice? Why you decided to go with “When Will I Be Loved?”
Joei: I chose “When Will I Be Loved” because I feel as though it gave me a chance to show off more of my country side while still keeping the integrity of the “rock” sound.
Voice Views: What’s your performance history with that song? Is it one you’ve performed live often?
Joei: I have performed this song for years! I’ve always loved Linda Ronstadt and The Everly Brothers so this is a song that I sing almost every single night!
Voice Views: How did you feel about your chances of advancing once the performances were completed?
Joei: I have felt very confident in all of my performances and I can say with certainty that I have given some of my best performances. The competition is really amazing this season, so I try to go into every performance with my best possible vocal and then I just enjoy the ride!
Voice Views: Anything else you’d like to add about the knockout round experience?
Joei: The knockout round was an amazing experience I feel honored to have worked alongside Levi Watkins! He is an amazing artist and I am glad that we got to share that stage together! I am also continuously amazed by working with Blake Shelton and constantly learning and growing while under his mentorship!
Voice Views: Singers are now through three rounds of the show. Can you pinpoint / explain the biggest improvement you think you’ve made to this point as a result of the show?
Joei: I think the biggest improvement that I have made this season is getting a lot more comfortable with singing alone onstage! I am so used to performing with my family up there with me, and this is my first time performing alone! My whole experience on The Voice has forced me out of my comfort zone and definitely given me a new confidence onstage!
Voice Views: And, finally, during this lockdown period, what have you been doing to stay musically sharp and make sure you’re ready when competition resumes?
Joei: I have been rehearsing songs and singing as often as I can to keep my voice strong and to be prepared for the Live Rounds! The quarantine hasn’t slowed down my drive or determination to succeed on this show! I am still planning on giving my best performances in the coming rounds!
