John Legend used his only block to land Julian King for his team during the Season 16 blind auditions on The Voice.

Julian, 25, of Philadelphia, Pa., turned two chairs with his performance of “All-Time Low” by Jon Bellion. But because Adam was blocked, he automatically joined Team Legend.

In the battle round Monday night, John paired him with Denton Arnell, who not only landed a spot on the show with his blind audition performance of “Hold On, We’re Going Home” by Drake, but followed it up with an on-stage proposal to his fiancee.

The song: “Grenade by Bruno Mars
The feedback: Adam Levine called them very evenly matched. Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson both liked a particular run Julian pulled off during the performance, but also praised Denton’s vocals.
The outcome: John opted to advance Julian based on his range and vocal dynamics. No one stole Denton, so he was eliminated.
My take: Julian’s silky smooth vocals won me over from the opening lines and he remained in control through the entire performance. On the other hand, I’m not sure this was a great song choice for Denton. He seemed a little unsure of himself at times. Oh, Julian also wisely kept his distance, even during the harmonies, lest he wind up getting a head butt like the one Denton delivered to his fiance before proposing.
