Karen Galera won a spot in the live cross battles for Team Kelly Clarkson on The Voice Season 16.
But we saw only a tiny snippet of her battle round performance of Ariana Grande’s “Imagine” with Alena D’Amico.
Karen earned her spot on Team Kelly with a blind audition performance of “Mi Corazoncito” by Aventura.
In fact, Karen, who was born in Mexico, performed the entire song in Spanish.
Here’s what the 19-year-old Dallas, Texas, resident said about the battle round match we missed on the show.

Voice Views: We saw only the tiniest snippet of your battle round. I was wondering if you could tell me about your reaction to the song choice.
Karen: I was honestly very surprised with the song choice. It was definitely out of my comfort zone but that excited me!
Voice Views: Can you tell me a little about how the battle went? anything you wanted to concentrate on improving from rehearsal to performance day and what type of feedback you got?
Karen: I will be honest and say that was not my best performance. I am still very proud of how things were handled! It was a huge learning experience for me and I wouldn’t change it if I could.
Voice Views: What do you think turned the tide in your favor when it came time for Kelly to make her decision? Did she give you any indication of why she picked you to advance, other than the quick comment we heard on the show?
Karen: Kelly did mention that our rehearsal was better and she was basing her decision off of that and who she feels would handle nerves best.
Voice Views: Anything else you’d like to say about the battle round experience?
Karen: I am so thankful for the opportunity to continue on the show. I plan to deliver an excellent performance for the live cross-battles.
Voice Views: Musically, is there anything, in particular, you’re hoping to showcase in future rounds on the show?
Karen: I would love to show my tone and range with a Latin flow. I don’t plan to only sing in Spanish throughout the show. In fact, my battle song was “Imagine” by Ariana Grande and that was all in English.
