Jackson Marlow admitted he didn’t have a ton of performance experience before stepping on The Voice stage for Season 16.

But on Facebook, he calls the show “a stepping stone” for getting where he wants to with country music.

Jackson, nephew of former Voice finalist Red Marlow, nabbed the very last spot available on Season 16 with his cover of “Troubadour” by George Strait.

He was eliminated from the show following his Team Kelly Clarkson battle round match with Abby Kasch. They performed “Bring on the Rain” by Jo Dee Messina & Tim McGraw.

Here’s what the 18-year-old from Rogersville, Ala., had to say about his music and his time on the show.

Voice Views: The battle round was filmed in January. What have you been doing in terms of music or the entertainment industry since then? Has there been a specific post-Voice experience that stands out so far?

Jackson: I just came home, went back to work, and just keep working on music. I have had some successful meetings with different people in the music industry and I have some really good things going on for me post The Voice.

Voice Views: Where do you see your time on the show leading you musically? What do you have planned next? Do you think you’ll be releasing new music in the future and, if so, what can fans expect in terms of sound/timing?

Jackson: I’m hoping to have some music released within the next month or so. I am just trying to get the songs together and everything. There is a lot more that goes into releasing music than most people think.

I’m hoping to keep the music I release as traditional as possible. I’m excited to have some projects in the mix and to get it released to all my fans that are waiting for it.

Voice Views: Do you think you grew as an artist as a result of The Voice experience? If so, in what way?

Jackson: I wouldn’t say I grew as an artist. I didn’t exactly pick up any new skills or knowledge during my time on the show. My fan base grew substantially over just a short period of time, which was great, but as far as gaining anything from an artist standpoint I would say no.

Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about your experience on the show?

Jackson: My favorite part of the whole Voice experience was meeting so many wonderful, and talented people. Not only the contestants but The Voice staff as well. Everyone treated me extremely well and took great care of me while I was there. I made some lifelong friends through the show.
