Keith Urban gets a turn atop the Idol judge rumor mill

So, now it’s Keith Urban’s turn to sit atop the American Idol judge rumor mill.

Enjoy it, Keith.

Considering there’s a new rumor every day, it might be a brief stay.

Or you might truly be the male country singer the show has been searching for to add to its panel.

In which case we’ll have months to get to know you better.

We’ve been hearing for weeks that producers were eying a male country star, be it Keith Urban or Toby Keith or Brad Paisley.

For those who don’t know the difference, Brad is the guy who’s on tour with Scotty McCreery and co-hosts awards shows with Carrie Underwood.

Toby Keith is the guy with the red solo cup.

Keith Urban is the guy married to Nicole Kidman.

Got it straight now.

If I had a choice between the three, I’d probably pick Brad because he’s well known for his sense of humor.

After Scotty McCreery took a tumble on the stage earlier this month, he showed up the next night to find the stage ringed with caution tape and orange cones.

The jokester who arranged that welcome: Brad Paisley, of course.

And if the other part of the latest Idol rumor is true — Nicki Minaj as an Idol judge … well, if you’re the guy sitting between Mariah and Nicki, a sense of humor might be called for.

But at least Keith Urban has sounded lucid in most of the interviews I’ve seen. And apparently he’ll come at a bargain price of $3 million to $4 million compared to $8 million plus wardrobe expenses for Nicki and $18 million for Mariah.

Hmm, guess that’s the cost of sounding lucid on a consistent basis.

Anyway, here’s one Idol follower who just hopes the judge drama ends soon.

Regardless of their star appeal or price tag, just find us three judges with an ear for voices who aren’t afraid to express an opinion.

Then let the singing begin.

Please.
