Idols on the Music Chart

Kelly takes aim at another #1 dance hit

0

Kelly Clarkson is closing in on her second-ever number one dance hit.

“Dark Side” moved up from number five to number four on Billboard’s dance/club play singles chart last week.

But there are some formidable obstacles to overcome. In front of her are “Goin’ In” by Jennifer Lopez, “Timebomb” by Kylie Minogue and, at number one, “Wide Awake” by Katy Perry.

For all her accomplishments, Kelly had never had a number one dance hit until “Stronger” achieved that feat earlier this year.

“Stronger” is still the top Idol single on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 31. It’s also still number one on the adult contemporary singles chart, a spot it’s held since early June.

“Dark Side” moved up to number 54 on the Hot 100 and number 12 on the adult pop chart last week.

Other chart highlights:

* “Blown Away” continues to be the top charting Idol album at number 26 on the Billboard 200. Carrie Underwood’s fourth album moved up from seven to five on the country albums chart. It previously topped both.

* The American Idol EP featuring Phillip Phillips continues to be the best performing of the Idol Season 11 EPs. It’s number 42 on the Billboard 200, down from 26 a week ago. The next highest on the Billboard 200 is Joshua Ledet’s EP at number 96 (down from 74).
