Michael Johns, New Idol Music

‘Love and Sex’ from Season 7 Idol finalist Michael Johns

2

The Season 7 Idols are still my all-time favorites when it comes to releasing enjoyable post-Idol music.

Not only have we gotten great music from that year’s top two, David Cook and David Archuleta, but so many of the other finalists have released underappreciated debut albums — Jason Castro, Brooke White, Amanda Overmyer (her “Solidy” CD is still one of my favorite Idol surprises) and Carly Smithson (as lead singer for We Are The Fallen).

Michael Johns is part of that list, too. His “Hold Back My Heart” CD was one of the best released by a former Idol contestant in 2009.

Now he’s released a 3-track EP — “Love and Sex” — which became available on iTunes today.

The first track — “The First Time” — certainly justifies the EPs name. And the second, “Cry, Cry, Cry,” is quite catchy.

My only complaint — at three tracks, this release is way too short.

As a bonus, anyone submitting their email address at Michael Johns online can get a freeload of a fourth track, an acoustic demo of “Tail Lights.”

Thanks for posting such a great article about Michael’s EP. Love it and the songs suit his voice perfectly and I agree Cry Cry Cry is so catchy…it might be my favourite! Loving my new summer music!
