Daysia Reneau from The Voice Season 22

Her audition: Daysia, 17, of Leavenworth, Kansas, performed “Crazy” by Patsy Cline: Despite a solid vocal, Daysia was nearly the end of her performance when Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani turned around almost simultaneously. Gwen says she loves the quality of Daysia’s voice. Daysia decided to join Team Gwen.

Here’s more about Daysia.

* She recently completed her junior year at Leavenworth High School in Leavenworth, Kansas.

* Daysai has ben singing for about four years, participating in several choirs and community theater productions.

* In a video about the importance of the arts in education, Daysai talks about how her mother died when she was just 12.

* “I grew a hatred for wanting to do anything,” she admits. “I never thought I could find anything I was passionate about. I gave up on myself.

“Then I met Mrs. Morgan, who showed me theater and gave me opportunities to feel happy again. I’m so fortunate to have a wonderful group of people I surround myself with every day, who make me feel that I belong.”

* One of Daysia’s favorite covers is Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.” “Before my mom passed in 2017, we would blast this song on car drives with the windows down. I miss her every day and this song keeps me connected to her.” Check out her cover of the song below.

* After her mother’s death, Daysia and her sister moved in with their aunt and uncle, Georgette and James Diggs, both military veterans, who became their legal guardians.

* In each of the past two years, Daysai has been picked as a semifinalist for KC Superstar, an American Idol and Voice-like competition that benefits the Jewish Community Center in Kansas City.

* And earlier this year, Daysai was named to the Kansas Musical Educators Association all-state choir.

* Daysia’s also been featured on the web show Awkward Anthems where host Amy McClung wonders if she could be the next Whitney Houston.
