Deejay Young from The Voice Season 24

Deejay Young from The Voice Season 24

His audition: Deejay Young, 33, of Tampa, Fla., performed “This Women’s Work” by Maxwell. He immediately impressed with his range, prompting chair turns from Gwen Stefani and John Legend. Reba McEntire soon followed. Deejay continued with a frill-filled performance but couldn’t quite entice a turn from Niall Horan. Reba liked his versatily. John complimented him for singing the song so beautifully and doing such a good job with his falsetto. Deejay opted to join Team Legend.

Here’s more about Deejay:

* During his Voice bio segment, we learned that Deejay joined the national tour of “Hamilton” in 2019 as a principal standby and wound up covering five of the seven main roles in the show.

* He’s performed and won awards for his performance in several other shows as well, including “Hairspray,” “Rent” and “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” according to his website.

* Deejay got his start in musical theater at age 5, that website says, performing in the national tour of “Daddy Please Don’t Leave.”

* What we didn’t learn on the show is that DeeJay’s also released a good deal of music, including a 12-track album called “Primitive” in 2020.

* You can check out music videos for nine songs on that album on Deejay’s YouTube channel. Check out the most recent for a song called “One” below.

* His other major releases include an album called “Rebirth” from 2013 and a 2017 holiday album called “An Unplugged Christmas.”

* Its a chance to portray his own artistry that has him most excited about The Voice opportunity, he told News Channel 8 in Tampa.

* “I’m just grateful to be able to share my gift and just show who I am as an artist, not a character. I get to really show who I am and show the light and the gift that god’s blessed me with.”

* Deejay’s Spotify bio says he’s also worked with a number of gospel artists, including Yolanda Adams, the Winans and Mary Mary.
