Band veteran Jimmy Mowery is one of the artists who auditioned for The Voice Season 16.
Now the Myrtle Beach, S.C.-based musician will take his talents to Season 16 of The Voice.
Jimmy is one of the artist who just announced that he auditioned for the show.
“This all started when my mom bought me my first guitar for my 13th birthday,” Jimmy writes in his Reverb Nation bio. “I stopped focusing on organized sports and started focusing on what I knew would be my career.”
Since then, he’s been in bands called Past Curfew, Like a Movie, Wake the Coast and The New High. He released solo EPs in 2012 (self-titled) and 2014 (“The Chase”).
The solo venture followed the 2011 breakup of Wake the Coast, which had trouble getting off the ground because its members were scattered through Pennsylvania and Ohio, Jimmy says.
“At one point, I self-booked my own tour from Pennsylvania to Texas and back in my ’99 Nissan Sentra,” he writes on Reverb. “I came back broke so I decided to play regionally for a while.”
The Altoona, Pa., native also decided to move to Myrtle Beach with his girlfriend. And he’s kept right on playing music.
The New High is his latest band and also includes Joey Howard, Jeff Wendle and Kurt Friedenberger. They’ve kept busy playing shows along the South Carolina coast.
And Jimmy released a new single last summer — his first since 2015. It’s a catchy pop tune called “Setting Sun,” and you can check it out below.
Oh, and according to his Twitter account, Jimmy dreams of playing The Warped Tour.
