His audition: Joe Kirk, 17, of Nashville, performed “Lego House” for his blind audition and had two coaches — Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani — turn around very early in his performance. They were soon joined by Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams, giving Joe one of those coveted four-chair turns. Adam praised Joe’s youthful confidence, adding “I’m blown away by you. Wow.” Joe picked Team Adam.

His background: When Joe was 10, his mom landed a job as an entertainer in Myrtle Beach, S.C. “They called us the modern day Partridge Family, because all my children ended up coming up on stage and singing different songs together,” Stephanie Ross Kirk says. Says Joe: “I’ve been singing ever since.” His brothers — Stephen and Justin — moved to Nashville to pursue music and the rest of the family soon followed. Joe says he wants to make his family proud, especially his mom, who gave up her career to let her sons pursue their musical dreams. A senior in high school, Joe told The Voice he’s only performed with his family, at school events and fairs and considers the show “a huge opportunity.”

What the show didn’t show: In his post-audition interview clip, Joe admits that while he wants to pursue a career in music, “I don’t know who I want to be as an artist right now.” He’s hoping a stint on The Voice will help chart that path. Why Team Adam? That’s pretty simple, Joe says. He’s always admired his brothers and their musicianship. “One thing Adam said is, ‘You’re like my little brother.’ I hope I can be close with my coach like I am with my brothers and learn from him like I have from them.” Oh, and those brothers — they’re currently performing as StarAlign and released a single called “Believe in This” earlier this year.

Update: He was eliminated from the show when he lost a battle round match to Alessandra Castronovo. They performed Rihanna’s “Stay.”
